Feedback on Military Serials Americas 2007

Post by spotter4life »

I think I found a mistake at the Canadian Hornets:
188733 CF-188 247/A196 ......
At first the designation of the CF-18A is in Canada CF-188A. I refer myself to a letter of the Public Inquiries Officer of Canada, which was posted at the Flugzeugforum (http://www.flugzeugforum.de/forum/showt ... rerid=3801). Also you can find the designation at http://www.uswarplanes.net/hornet.html. The seconde one is the CN. I found two sources which say that the cn isn't 247/A196 but 244/A194 (http://www.magnum-x.pl/pol/files/f18lis ... kcyjna.pdf and the book ''World Air Forces Directory 2006/7). Possibly the A194 is also wrong, but i need a little bit more time to proof this. By the way: Has anybody got a picture of a CN plate of a F/A-18A or B? This would help me a lot

I agree with you that the current designation of most of the operational Hornets in Canada is CF-188A, but it would be nice to know when this designation has changed. Did the letter you received shine a light on that?

It has been confirmed that at their delivery they were officially designated as CF-188, just like CF-116 and CF-104 as can be concluded from CFOA 36-37 the Type Designation and Naming of Aircraft.

The A-suffix is usually allocated when very extensive modifications have been made to an airframe, so it may very well have to do with the IMP upgrade the CF-18 fleet currently receives.

If this is indeed true, not all CF-18s that were ever on the Canadian inventory can be referred to as CF-188A, so we decided to refer to them with their basic designation, untill the designation CF-188A has been confirmed for an individual airframe.

Any additional information is of course welcome!

Regarding the c/n you mention, we have this for Bu162412, so it would be interesting to see what your sources have for that one.

This letter was from 04.10.01. For Bu 162412 I've got 246/A196 which is a F/A-18-14-MC. Back to the problem with the version count. The aircraft where this difference is from was 161364 32/B10. This aircraft is listed as B but is possibly an A. Because of this the version count would be adjusted with one A more and one B less. At the moment I've counted them as B but this is quite unsafe :? . More informations are welcome
