LN F-15E Strike Eagle downed by Iran, CSAR-teams deployed...

Post by Glidepath »

ID'd by a BBC analist, by looking at the scattered debris it was
an USAFE LN F-15E Strike Eagle that was apparently downed by Iran and came down on enemy soil.
CSAR-teams deployed..meanwhile 1 airman was rescued, and team(s) efforts are ongoing to track airman #2, but Iran is searching for him/her as well.

This seems to have been the first US manned a/c downed by IRAN's air defence since the start of the war. A small victory for the battered country, that seemed utterly helpless against the might of its world power enemy, led by the current supreme commander US president DJ T.

3 other more (Strike) Eagles were downed (by effective yet friendly fire) earlier on. (One was an yet un-id'd LN F-15E)

Two H-60s, part of the first CSAR missionst were shot at 'by local police' and sustained some degree of damage. some injured POB.

latest
-after a lenghty search, the WSO rescued, but the airman was injured.
-Two US aircraft, part of the rescue op., were left behind for some unknown reason. Both were subsequently destroyed by US forces. Could be two C-130s.
-some 5 Iranians were killed during the CSAR op.
-one US drone, part of the rescue op, was was shot down. Type unknown so far.

The WSO was mentioned to hold the rank of colonel. (contradicting an expert who mentioned earlier 'he' was 'a young man'.)

Some sources says a decoy CSAR was set up by the CIA. If any assets or agents were lost in that (air) operation, they will not easily disclose details, if ever.

Just a reminder: stick to facts only please in this subforum.
'Some sources say' is very vague, and the regime of the 'utterly helpless battered country' is still sending barrages of missiles towards civil targets, above all to the country it wants to wipe off the face of the earth along with the majority of its population.

Thanks,
Erik

as for CIA's role in the mission,
look at this (and elesewhere):
https://edition.cnn.com/2026/04/06/us/v ... igvid-vrtc

So, fact is that he stated about the mission.
Believing that what he said in that statement actually happend for a fact, that is up to the reader.

Now that is something substantial :bthumb:

Edit: of course, there is this main topic as well.

They apparently deployed "Ghost Murmur" for the very first time. Developed by Skunk Works and capable of detecting a heart beat from 40 miles away.

Most certainly some impressive tech... Scary it can be used for another use as well.

I had to look this one up but it sounds pretty amazing or incredible technology indeed. Almost unbelievable.

Well, it is reported he used the Combat Survivor Evader Locator (CSEL) to announce his position, and then Ghost Murmur picked him up. More like a confirmation in this case? Amazing nonetheless, even in a barren area devoid of other people.

P.S. As this is still mostly about CSAR, I think it still fits in this subforum. If we go more off-main-topic, we may have to move.

US voiced that the rescue mission involved 155 aircraft, including four bombers, 64 fighters, 48 refuelling tankers, 13 rescue aircraft and more.

(without mentining if this lot was up in the air at one time, or at different points during the CSAR op. ((I bet the latter))

Locator was used, a thing which is sending intermitted signals.

The WSO was said to be spotted visually, first hardly (part of body, 'maybe a head', rather motionless, then better when moving a bit and showing himself more.

WSO used a code word/phrase over comms. three words only.
