I dont know if this is old news but I have heard a whisper that two F4Fs have been sold to an English outfit!!

38+48 with a life of 500hrs remaining together with 37+89 as a christmas tree. Will they fly??

Isn't the law prohibiting high performance jets with afterburners being operated as a warbird in the UK?

Would be fantastic though! :bday:

If correctly remembrer, there is no question of after burner but complex aircraft such as P.1, Harrier, Buccaneer could not be flown by privatzeers in U.K;, hence the move to South Africa.

In 1996 I asked the crew of an RAF 22sq. Wessex if there was a chance of keeping a Wessex in the airshow circuit , after the retirement of the type later that year . The answer :"No way, the CAA will never allow a Wessex in private hands due to the complexity of the gearbox systems..." So nothing to do with speed , afterburners etc.

Ah, but the Wessex was already certified civil in the UK, see here;

So no real obstacle, as long as a properly set up company was looking after the aircraft to comply with CAA regulation of ex-military aircraft under British Civil Airworthiness Regulations Chapter A8-20.
