Looking at the pictures the mm code on the kc-130j ami almost seems stripped away...

C130j and MM is black an readable but the numbers are almost in readable...

Reason?

Regarding the Italian, I have seen this one referred to as KC-130 both here and on EWAS forum, but the Scarmble database gives it as a 'normal' C-130J. Anybody?

It has the refuelling pods of a KC-130J. If the airframe is not equipped for them there is not much point in installing them on the outboard wing stations. My bet is that it was reconfigured to KC-standard at some point in its career (for instance after the crash of one of the original Italian KC-130J earlier).
