Mvg,
Could be an US Army C-37A (G-V) 05-1944 with c/n 566.

Some sources (Scramble database for instance) have the FY for this aircraft as '97' while Joe Baugher has it as '05' like you said. Which one's correct?

05 is the correct fiscal year. It was first delivered to the USAF as the 97-0049 (in 1999), then left the Air Force and enlisted in the Army in 2005 as 05-1944 (temporary reg of N8VQ).

That's what I saw on Joe Baugher's site as well but quite a few sources list it as FY97 still, strangely.

The three C-37s were dedicated and named after an important moment in army history with tail numbers corresponding to the year of that event (1778: Valley Forge, 1863: Gettysburg and 1944: Normandy).

02-1863
04-1778
..-1944

I am aware that it is a weak argument, but FY05 "fits in this row better" than FY97.

The US Army isn't helping to clear it up either since the registration in the flightplan is just '1944'. :D

Another argument would be that 97 as fiscal year can only be correct if the plane was ordered as part of the 1997 fy budget. That is the case for the original purchase by the USAF, but questionable for the purchase by the USArmy. It certainly does happen that planes are transferred from the USAF to the USArmy with keeping the original serial. However, in this case it seems a complete new serial was given and as far as I know, that will also give it a new fy. Hence, I go for 05, but would not at all mind an argument to the contrary.

Sorry to tell you but it should be 97-1944..........

I pictured this one back in 2000 and also in 2004 , both times still using the blue/white VIP colors and serial 70049 on it's tail....AND US ARMY titles under its wing.......so never flew for the USAF.

Thanks for the thing about the Army (so seems not USAF originally), but that doesn't say anything about the current fy. It is still a reserial, which most of the times also means a new fy, even moreso for the fact it was on the civilian registry in between. For the moment I will stick with the 05 (but will check further on it originally being Army).

Erwin

Edit: cannot confirm the Army titles under the wings, but it does seem to have been named 'Normandy' from the beginning. So you must be right in that it has always been flying for the USArmy.

To make it more complicated :worship: I think it was first 97-0049 then 97-1944 and finally 05-1944.

Yes, you could bloody well be right......
See: http://www.propilotmag.com/archives/200 ... my_p2.html
In Nov 1999 it accepted C37A (GV) 97-0049 "Normandy" (later reserialed 97-1944).

Serial should be 97-01944.

Why should they change the fiscal year once this one is given?

I know not every FY in serials is correct (i.e. the VC-25's), but those 'wrong' FY's are for a reason. In this case there is not a good reason, because only '1944' is painted on the tail.

Btw: l/n of 97-01944 is sep14 according to Scramble dbase.

Btw2: also the reliable MASR2015 gives 97-01944 as correct serial!
Cheers,

Jeroen

Last quote from me on this matter, because in the end, without an official USArmy listing it will remain up for grabs which it really is.
So from the well known Joe Baugher's site:
97-1944 Gulfstream Aerospace C-37A
c/n 566. Gulfstream V N466GA. For US Army, registered as N8VQ. Originally
carried the military registration of 97-0049. Registration
N8VQ cancelled Nov 2005, plane was relabeled 97-1944, apparently
to commemorate the D-Day landings, but had no official meaning. Later relabeled 05-1944
I guess up to each individual how you like it ;-)
