Good article about F-35....

Something already known for years:
But the Air Force and Lockheed baked failure into the F-35’s very concept. “They tried to make the F-35 do too much,” said Dan Grazier, an analyst with the Project on Government Oversight in Washington, D.C.

Like I said before, no need to question everything. Will become clear in a couple of weeks' time.

Bjorn,
19-8723 and 19-8724 are the correct JASDF serials.

Now confirming the FY allocation of this bird as being 19-5530. This was the serial that was present on the infographic of the Danish stencilling last year, but the comment said the final allocation wasn't yet known and that the allocation was a mere suggestion. But it seems it was spoton back then and the comment 'fooled' all of us.

I thought the original plan was that Denmark would acquire two aircraft in LRIP XII and four in LRIP XIII. Would that not make the FY for LRIP XII FY18 and FY19 for LRIP XIII?
The FY on the photo is still a bit difficult to read, but 5530 is the same as on the graphic shown last year.

Anybody for an update on the LRIP?

Hans, that was the original case yes. But we've received confirmation some while ago that the first Danish F-35s are indeed Lot 13 all together. And yes, the year is still a little difficult to read, but the 5530 number should be the 19 cycle.

The comment on the infograph can be read in two different ways. One as being that the numbering sequence all together is still unknown or two that the sequence till L-012 (as on the infograph) isn't known yet. With the latter off cours being true because these deliveries run over multiple years and evidently the sequence of L-012 isn't yet known. But reading it that way would mean that the displayed FY number of 19-5530 was correct for the first jet. It depends on how you interpret the comment. We'll see the coming days when the jet makes its first flight and a more detailed picture with that flag and FY number will become present. But I presume it's going to be correct.

Hans van Herk
These are Lot 13 because they start with '19' instead of '09' for the Lot 12 aircraft. Lot 12 contained 6 airframes and they (09-8717 till 09-8722) were already all delivered.

FY19 is confirmed for L-001, LOT13. If one takes the picture of L-001 taken inside the hangar and turns it on its side and then zoom in, FY19 becomes very clear.
