Dutch PC-7 replacement

Not seen this before.
In January the government sent a letter to parliament about replacement of the PC-7s
Intension is buying 8 -10 new aircraft depending on type selected.
Planning is new aircraft to be delivered in 2026.

Belgium is also looking for a replacement for its SF260M/D's, perhaps a joint purchase to reduce costs?

The letter says a joint purchase is not possible due to different timelines in other countries. :?

They need to make a decision as soon as possible... What would be the options ?

Cost-effective of the shelf (COTS) and acrobatic.
Most likely candidates:
Grob G120TP
Pilatus PC-7Mk.X

PC-21 T-6 etc. might be to large. As scramble
(article) mentioned before.
Da20 SR22 etc to small and not acrobatic enough.

D letter with selected aircraft choice comes in summer 2024.

'Plans for succession PC-7 not changed'


THE HAGUE – The Netherlands is still looking for an aircraft that matches the so-called 'initial pilot training capacity'.

The Air Force will inform Pilot and Aircraft on Friday (June 2).

A top man from Embraer said this week that the Netherlands, among others,
is interested in the A29N Super Tucano,
a device from a heavier category than basic trainers.

Embraer launched the A-29N in April 2023, with the 'N' referring to 'NATO'.
The Brazilian aircraft manufacturer
wants to respond to the specific requirements and wishes of NATO countries with the modified model.

In an interview with Flight Global, Embraer Defense & Security CEO Bosco da Costa Junior
said this week that interest in Europe comes from the Netherlands, Portugal and Austria.

The Netherlands is expected to open an international tender in the short term
for parties that can supply a successor to the current Pilatus PC-7.

In principle, those obsolete training aircraft must be replaced at the beginning of 2027.

In a response to Pilot and Aircraft, the Air Force says that the replacement project is unchanged
and that the Netherlands is therefore looking for an aircraft for initial pilot training.

“At this stage we are not going into which manufacturer has a better chance than another,
but Embraer is of course free to respond to this project,”
said Air Force spokesman Tom van Hout.

The Netherlands hopes to be able to make a decision before the end of 2024
on the replacement of the current fleet,
which consists of thirteen aircraft.

Defense plans to purchase eight to ten new aircraft and two simulators.

By using the new aircraft intensively and by allowing pilots in training to make more digital flying hours,
one-to-one replacement of the PC-7s is not necessary, according to the Ministry of Defence.

The Embraer A-29 Super Tucano can be used in pilot training as an advanced aircraft.
It is also suitable for light attack tasks.
Last year, Embraer and the Netherlands already concluded an agreement in outline for the delivery of five C-390 transport aircraft.

They should replace the current C-130 Hercules aircraft.
