To me it looks like the left side. Engine exhaust is visible on the right side of the fried chopper.

This is definitely the right hand side of the chopper. Look at the main wheel strut on the left of the weapons pylon. The wheel strut is at the back of the cabin, not at the front. So the cockpit is on the right side of the picture, tail on the left.
Also, with the Mi-8, the engine exhaust is just in front of the rotor head, not behind.

Of course it is not simple to find out if, say, one or more pictures got "mirrored/reversed"... :?

Is this really a discussion about the front and rear side of this helicopter? :M-): It is as senseless as a discussion about the top and bottom of this Hip!

Umm, Stratofreighter doesn't challenge which side, in the pictures, is the front and which is the rear of the Hip... He is refering to the possibility of pictures being shown in mirrored view. That is pretty relevant in this case.

Ok I get it, sorry about this Stratofreighter! :-) The burned one is clearly showing the right side of the helicopter but the flying one is more difficult to judge.

The picture of the burned Mill is from a Syrian Mi-17, last two of serial 75 are visible on the fuselage.
Same picture is already on this webpage from 22jan14
http://luftwaffeas.blogspot.nl/2014/01/ ... ed-ii.html
text "This Mi-17 with serial 75 was hit with a MANPAD while flying over the northern county of Aleppo to deliver arm supplies to Nubbol and Al-Zahra' Shi'is towns. The pilot managed to land safely"
For the benefit of Mr. Kite, there will be a show tonight on trampoline
