Question for the civil spotters

Hi all,

Last weekend in Portugal (Algarve), somebody asked me how he could know the type and carrier that always fly high above his house.
The planes were not coming in- or outbound from Faro but were crossing the Atlantic.

Anybody a link so I can respond to his question?

You can see it sometimes on the pictures. And also you can read it out from the radar. There are systems that show airplanes above countries. Give your buddy this link and he will understand.
