LAST MD-83 AWAY FROM EUROPE: FAREWELL RACE FOR ENTHUSIASTS‎ DAT MD-83

Post by YS11 »

Danish Air Transport (DAT), a Danish charter airline, is saying goodbye to its only McDonnell-Douglas MD-83. For the fanciers there will be a farewell race on 16 October. After that, it's over and out for the last MD-83 in Europe.‎

‎Interested parties can still ‎‎sign up‎‎ for the one and a half hour farewell flight from Copenhagen. Participation costs 1990 Danish kroner (about 265 euros). That price includes drinks, snacks, a special t-shirt and a safety card. A minimum of 50 participants are required.‎

‎An interesting detail is that the owner and director of DAT, Jesper Rungholm, will also be the captain on this special sightseeing flight.‎

‎Recently at Schiphol‎
‎The last MD-83 in Europe bears the registration OY-RUE and was delivered in 1990. The aircraft flew for several European companies, of which the last eleven years before DAT. This summer, this plane brought the ‎‎Danish football team to Schiphol‎‎ for a European Championship game in the Arena.‎

‎According to Aerotelegraph, there are still 45 MD-83s active worldwide, of which 30 carry passengers. Most fly in Iran (14), Mexico (10) and in the US (also 10). In Europe, the largely equal MD-82 is still active: of these, European Air Charter is the largest operator.‎
