Incredible what they published today ...
Andreas Lubitz was the co-pilot of Germanwings Flight 9525 who officials say intentionally locked out pilot Patrick Sonderheimer from the cockpit and crashed the plane into the French Alps, killing all 150 people onboard.

Low-cost airline Norwegian Air Shuttle will now require two people to be in the cockpit at all times for safety reasons. "When one person leaves the cockpit, two people will now have to be there," its director of operations is quoted as saying by AFP news agency.

Absolutely not I'd say. It is not like such a dive needs any preparation, so it is rather acting on the opportunity. Had the pilot gone out of the cockpit on the flight from DUS to BCN, then he had done it quite likely on that flight already. So no, not strange at all and in fact, not the first time either.

Your applying logic here, but that doesn't apply to someone who is in an illogical state of mind and wants to commit suicide. For all we know, the co-pilot would never (as in 'never ever') have committed suicide if the captain hadn't left the cockpit at that very moment.
Answers will be questioned.....

Ok, I see what you mean. There is of course no logic behind a behaviour like this ... What a tragic ...

Just reported: during the search of the co-pilots' apartment, the police found a "Krankmeldung" (doctor's declaration of being ill) in the waste-bin. This declaration was valid for the day of the accident.

This is not an isolated type of air crash. According to a Swedish aviation journalist have more accidents of this type were the pilot committed suicide occured in different part of the globe.

Those suicide crashes are probably the Silk Air 185 crash, and Egyptair 990 crash. Although the Egyptians don't accept this explanation.

There is no larger list, there's three cases in total concerning fully laden civil airliners, AFAIK.
There are more where speculation exists, though: http://news.aviation-safety.net/2013/12 ... t-suicide/

Silk Air 185 inbound into Singapore on 19 Dec 1997 was one example of this already happening as well as a Egyptair B767 in October 1999 out of New York JFK.

1982.02.09 Japan Airlines
Two pilots and a flight engineer was in the cockpit when a 35 year old pilot deliberately caused the plane to crash into the sea shortly before landing at Haneda Airport in Tokyo in 1982. At the sound recording is heard how the other pilot and flight engineer trying to hold back the offender and how he shouts "Please stop." The water was shallow and 24 of the 147 people who were on board the plane were killed. The pilot had previously been disabled due to mental problems but had been allowed to fly again when the accident occurred. He survived the suicide attempt and was acquitted of murder by reason of mental illness.

1994.08.21. Royal Air Maroc
A total of 40 passengers and four crew members were aboard Flight 630 to Casablanca from Agadir in Morocco in 1994. Only ten minutes after the flight departure flight crashed in the Atlas Mountains, which resulted in that all aboard died. The investigation of the ASN (Aviation Safety Network) indicated that the pilot disconnected the autopilot and flew the plane into the mountain on purpose. The mass murder was denied by the Moroccan pilot compartment. Among the passengers were people from six nations, including a Kuwaiti prince and his wife.

1997.12.19. Silk Air
All 104 people from 14 different countries on board Silk Air Flight 185 died when the aircraft en route from Jakarta to Singapore suddenly began a steep descent and crashed into the ground. Initially pointed investigation that the pilot had crashed the plane deliberately but according to the final report from the Indonesian authorities could cause can not be established. An investigation by the US NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board) was, however, against the authorities' investigation and showed that the death crash after all was intentional. "No aircraft-related mechanical problems contributed to the accident," wrote the NTSB in its report. Pictured seeking relief workers for victims and wreckage.

1999.10.11 Air Botswana
According to ASN, (Aviation Safety Network) was the pilot of this non commercial air off for medical reasons. He still managed to take control of an aircraft and well in the air, he set several requirements, including to speak with Botswana's vice president. The airport was evacuated and negotiation attempts were made to persuade the pilot to refrain from the threat of crashing into an airport building and trying to collide with parked airplane at the airport. Once the fuel started to run out the pilot collided with the will of the asphalt and several aircraft. The pilot was the only one who was killed.

1999.10.31 Egyptair flight 990
All 217 people aboard flight 990 died when the co-pilot, much like in Germanwings crash, was alone in the cockpit when the first pilot left for a toilet. Both an American and an Egyptian investigation was conducted - but they came to very different conclusions. The US investigation concluded that the co-pilot deliberately crashed the plane. On the audio recording should have heard how he repeated the words "I rely on God" as he deliberately steered the aircraft toward the Atlantic Ocean off the US coast in 1999. Egyptian authorities denied that this was a deliberate crash and pointed instead of mechanical problems. In the picture the missing aircraft's black box.

2013.11.29 Mozambique Airlines.
27 passengers and six crew members were killed when flight 470 crashed in a national park in north-eastern Namibia, 2013. The plane was en route from Maputo in Mozambique, Angola and quickly lost altitude after the co-pilot changed the plane's settings, and brought it to the ground while the first pilot was on toilet, according to the accident investigation. On the audio recording from the cockpit heard the sound of someone pounding on the door. The reason for the pilot's actions are not determined.

2015.03. Germanwings.
It is to early give statement of the reason of the pilot´s behaviour before the accident. Experienced doctors can give other explanations.

German prosecutors have disclosed that the first officer of the crashed Germanwings Airbus A320 had previously been treated for suicidal tendencies.

The Dusseldorf public prosecutor’s office states that the treatment took place over an “extended period”, several years ago, before the pilot obtained his flight qualifications.

It adds that he had undertaken further visits, more recently, to medical specialists in neurology and psychiatry – in association with periods of sick leave – but there is no recorded evidence of aggression or suicidal behaviour.

Bild and Paris Match claim to have seen a video, which was allegedly retrieved from a mobile-phone, found among the wreckage.
It is now reported that they likely saw this video, shot on board an American Airlines B777, encountering turbulence over the Pacific last december.
