Czech Republic 2008 (Kbely+Letnany+Caslav!!)

Post by wamovements »

During a recent holdiay to Czech Republic, I was able to do some aircraft spotting at Kbely and had a basevisit to Caslav.
A full article will be published on http://www.wamovements.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; soon, but I do want to share the noted serials already as the Scramble database is not always right.
As we slept only 1.6 miles form Kbely I went there a couple of days. At Kbeley the following could be seen

On Thursday 7 Feburary 2008 I was able able to visit the (closed) Museum of Kbely.
I was only aloud to have a view on the outside collection, and some pictures of the storage area of the museum revealed some extra serials.
The only thing I couldn't solve was the serial of a MiG-15UTI, that was parked in front of the Li-2's, Yak-40 and Il-28's but the serials was impossible to read.
If anyone can help, or would likt ot receive a picture of this MiG-15, please contact me.

On 14-02-2008 I paid a visit to the Aero Vodchody company (outside)
Unfortunately a visit to the Aero company was cancelled, but as we were in the area, we had a quick view at this factory.
Not much to see here from outside except a civil Mi-2 and a stored L-159B (5831?), which was parked under a shed and I think it is was in use for tests.
As I received confirmation that L-159B 6073 is on a tour I pressume the serial of the visible L-159 as being 5831.
Is there anyone who is able to confirm the L-159B serial?

On 14-02-2008 I also paid a visit to the Praha-Letnany collection.
The following could be seen here:

OK-RID An2 repaint
An2 OK-RID will be repainted in d-days colours and will attent 15 meetings in Czech republic during 2008.
This is done because of 90 years Czech Air Force, which will be celebrated during the CIAF in September at Brno. I do not see the Link between d-day and 90 years Czech Air Force, but is was nice to hear the people talking such enthousiast about this project.

Caslav Air Base 15-02-2008

On firday 15-02-2008 we brougth a visit to Caslav AB.
We had a very good day with 9 gripens and 12 Alca's visible.
The L-39ZA was the last L-39ZA to be maintained at Caslav as on 12-02-2008 Namest opened it's own maintenance facility

Most of the preserved aircraft that were noted here last year moved somewhere else. I am currently waiting confirmation on the exact locations of the MiG-21MA, MiG-21MF, L-39ZA and Su-7BM. The two MiG23's that were preserved before, were seen at the Kbely Museum.
Unfortunatley is was not pissoble to go to the Gripen maintenance facility as the civilian Swedish maintainers, who will do large maintennace to the Czech Gripen fleet during tyhe 10 year lease contract, do not want to be photographed.
