Hi,

What was the reason for all those tactical transporters at RTM?

Hi Wouter,
the reason for all that transport was the exercise REFORGER (REturn of FORces to GERmany). This was during the cold war an annual exercise to train the NATO forces to deploy to Germany in case of a conflict with the Russians.

In the centre of the last photo you can see a C-130 prop. I remember that one of Hercs got damaged by ice, and that the blades were bent. I was there that day as well (oh man, it was cold) and have a photo of this C-130 with the damaged prop still on. I will look it up next weekend.

Ah OK. I'm not that old... (born 1984 in Rotterdam)

I've seen pictures before of these exercises. Tanks rolling over the Dutch streets towards the German lowlands...

Some positives scanned of 1980 /Valkenburg, landing/departure was at the short runway at that time.
My 1st and last operational (sorry, not interested in wrecks and ex) Danish Dak, and a Neptune for the bonus.

Here's the damaged C-130 I wrote about earlier. You can see the wobbly prop.

One more Falcon 20 at night. I already had it scanned when Pieter uploaded his photo.

Nice beaver you've got there! :)
My whole collection of military F-28s was shot at RTM and SPL.

I cheated with the 'TU' in the registration. Somehow both letters weren't scanned properly. (Minolta Scan Dual III)
