Forum rules
ImageThis is the forum to share your recent aviation photos with the rest of the community, being photos not older than six months at the moment of topic opening. Theme-based topics, not about recent events, should go into the sub-forum.
Although we will not screen beforehand, we reserve the right to delete any images, especially if clearly unsharp or otherwise low in quality. For more information on how to upload you images, check this post.
In topic titles, please use airfield names in stead of just codes, and be clear about what kind of photos your viewers can expect (e.g. CIV/MIL, location etc.).

Finally, bring any photo criticism understandable and to the point, not cynical or offensive! Simultaneously, do not feel offended by criticism per se, but simply explain your motives, taste et cetera, or ignore if you wish so.

Heraklion 04-09 and 08-08-2008

Post by DJMikey »

For my holidays I went to Crete and spotted nearly every day the transportflights to/from Heraklion. Nearly every day a C130B/H or C27J of the Hellenic AF could be seen. Almost every day 1 between 10.00 - 11.00 hours or 1 between 17.00 and 18.00 hours. Sometimes a nice visitor can be seen also. This year a Russian AF/Gvmt Tu154M. On the 4th and 8th of september I went to the nearby beach of Amnissos to take pictures. Here are the shots of the military ones on Heraklion, hope you like them!

Yes it is, even from preserved ones. Last year I asked the guard at Heraklion if I could take a picture of the preserved F5. But no, strictly forbidden.
Anyhow, as I normally follow up to the rules and try not to cause problems for myself or others, very rarely I like to try to bend the rules a bit. In this case I searched for pretty safe conditions to take pictures as shown above. In my opinion the beach of Amnissos nearby is the perfect place for it, as there isn't any supervision or inspection by military police. I stayed a good 500 - 700 meters away from the runway, so I blended in with all the other beachvisitors. If you come closer, you maybe could be spotted by guards of the military complex of Heraklion, wich lies close to the runway and the start of the above mentioned beach.

My advice is the same as various other members on this forum already have given: Don't take pictures if you are not 100% sure it's safe to do so, unless you like to try out the bed and breakfastfacilities and hospitality of the Greek prisons.
