Sydney-Kingsford Smith 16/17/18/23/24/25-09-2022 CIV + MIL

Hi everybody!

as said in the Singapore-topic, work saw me needed to go to Sydney. My first time to Australia and as it's a long way to fly in economy, I had some jetlag recovery-time for sightseeing and spotting. I also added an extra day after my workweek.

Anyway, on to the planes. Sydney is, of course, home to the Australian airlines like Qantas, Jetstar and Virgin Australia. But you can also spot quite a few aircraft from smaller airlines like REX and Link Airways. International visitors are also quite good, with regular appearances from airlines like Bamboo Airways, Cebu Pacific, Aircalin, Fiji Airways, Malaysia Airlines etc.

In the morning, I spotted at a location called Shep's Mound and in the afternoon near the beach. For lenses I would recommend at least a 200-300 mm lense and be aware that heatwaves can be a thing, even during my visit when it was like 18 degrees celcius.

Should you plan to visit Sydney, you'll have enough after 2-3 days, after which things become repetitive and you'll see the same airframes again.

Enough with the talking, time for the shots!

1. Link Airways is a domestic airline, operating the Metroliner and the Saab 340 like this VH-VEA:

2. REX Airlines is another one and currently the world's largest Saab 340-operator, with a fleet of 58, including this VH-ZXS:
ImageS340-REX-VHZXS-SYD16sep22 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

3. Based at Sydney is the NSW Ambulance, which uses a fleet of Beech 350Cs, like this VH-AMQ, that are operated by Pel-Air.
ImageB350-NSW-VHAMQ-SYD16sep22 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

4. You can, of course, get up-to-date on your Qantas B737-800-fleet, like this VH-VZB:
ImageB738-QFA-VHVZB-SYD16sep22 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

5. Or with the many B737-800s of Virgin Australia:

6. And Jetstar A320s:
ImageA320-JET-VHVQQ-SYD16sep22 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

ImageDHC82-QFL-VHTQG-SYD16sep22 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

8. There's also quite a bit of bizjet movements, including of course, Australian registered aircraft like this VH-RIU:

9. QantasLink also operates the B717-200, like this VH-NXJ:

11. Air New Zealand is flying to Sydney with all their jet-aircraft types, like the A320neo, A321neo, B777-300ER and B787-9:
ImageA320N-ANZ-ZKNHE-SYD16sep22 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

12. AirAsiaX is a regular visitor but I always saw this A330-300 9M-XXZ:
ImageA333-ASX-9MXXZ-SYD16sep22 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

13. Doesn't get more exotic with this Air Vanuatu B737-800 YJ-AV8:
ImageB738-VAN-YJAV8-SYD16sep22 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

14. This Global 7500 PP-BFB is only 3 months old:

15. Fantastic livery on this Aircalin A330-900N F-ONEO:

Let's continue!

1. FlyPelican is another nice little airline, operating the classic Jetstream, like this VH-NTL.
ImageBAE31-PLC-VHNTL-SYD17sep22 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

2. Love these colorful Cebu Pacific A330-900s! Here's RP-C3901 arriving from Manila.
ImageA339-CBU-RPC3901-SYD17sep22 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

3. Tasman Cargo Airlines is operating this B767-300F VH-EXZ for DHL:

4. Qantas A330-200 VH-EBV is wearing the oneworld-titles:
ImageA332-QFA-VHEBV-SYD17sep22 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

5. Really, really happy to have finally catched the all-black B777-300ER ZK-OKQ of Air New Zealand. I missed it several times over the years and then the airline decided to stop flying the B777s during the pandemic with no plans to revive them. And now it's back in service!
ImageB773-ANZ-ZKOKQ-SYD17sep22 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

6. Similar as with Air New Zealand's B777-300ER, I always missed to photograph a B777-200LR of Air Canada. These were also parked during the pandemic with plans to not to return them. And now they are and I managed to catch 3 different ones during my stay.
ImageB772-ACA-CFNND-SYD17sep22 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

7. Nice little red corporate ERJ145 VH-JGR:
ImageE145-PVT-VHJGR-SYD17sep22 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

8. Next to the A330-900s, Aircalin also flies to Sydney with their A320neo F-OTIB:
ImageA320N-ACL-FOTIB-SYD17sep22 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

9. My first Bamboo Airlines Dreamliner is this VN-A829:
ImageB789-BMB-VNA829-SYD17sep22 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

10. China Southern's A330-300 B-5940 is promoting the China International Import Expo:
ImageA333-CSZ-B5940-SYD18sep22 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

11. Not seen too many times during my visit were the B787-8s of Jetstar. Seen here is VH-VKJ arriving from Vietnam:
ImageB788-JET-VHVKJ-SYD23sep22 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

12. This was my only spotted Alliance Airlines-aircraft during my visit in Sydney, ERJ190 VH-UYU:
ImageE190-ALC-VHUYU-SYD23sep22 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

13. This REX Saab VH-EKX is promoting shark cage diving:

14. Nice orange Jetstar A320 VH-VGF:
ImageA320-JET-VHVGF-SYD23sep22-2 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

15. Sporting a retro-livery of Qantas is this B737-800 VH-XZP:
ImageB738-QFA-VHXZP-SYD23sep22 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

16. Air India B787-8 VT-ANQ is also wearing a special celebration livery:
ImageB788-AIC-VTANQ-SYD24sep22 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

17. RAAF BBJ A36-002 is seen here basking in early morning light on 25 September:
ImageBBJ-RAAF-A36002-SYD25sep22 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

18. Unfortunately, the position of this Falcon 900 P2-ANW of the Government of Papua New Guinea was a bit tricky for a good shot but still a nice catch:
ImageDA900-PAP-P2ANW-SYD25sep22 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

19. Next to it was my first ever bizjet from the Philippines, this G200 RP-C9198:
ImageG280-PVT-RPC9198-SYD25sep22 by Anton Homma, on Flickr

20. And I'm ending my Sydney post with this A400M 54+18 of the Luftwaffe, which was quite far away from home. Quite nice to catch my first German A400 so far from home...
