Baana 22 highway exercise in Finland.

Hello!

The Finnish Air Force Academy arranged the Baana 22 exercise in Joutsa on 26 to 29 September 2022. The part of highway 4 used as a landing strip will be closed to all traffic during the exercise.

Baana is a road base exercise annually conducted by the Finnish Air Force. The lead responsibility of the exercise rotates every year among the Air Force units, and in 2022, it is the Air Force Academy’s turn. The Air Force trains regularly operations from other than a home base to be capable of a quick dispersal across the country, when necessary. Participation in operations from road bases is a part of Air Force pilot training.

I'm sure no one on this forum will not! Great contribution, thanks for sharing. It's a good thing this exercise was held in late September, I love the Autumn colors in the background as much as the jets!

Very good colors due to autumn trees. Remember driving through Finland on spotting trips noticing several highway strips; very efficient operational model. Sweden and Poland seem to hold on to this model as well.

Were these pictures taken from a public road, or do you need a special invitation to witness the operations?

These pics were taken from a public road and you not need a special invitation.
But photography is possible only in two road bases and air force is using these road bases approximately every four years.
