Axalp 20-10-2021 (+Alpnach and Meiringen)

Post by seahawk12 »

I want to share some photo's which i made on my recent trip to Switzerland. I made the trip on 19.10.2021 by taking the plane from Amsterdam to Basel and then a rental car to my first stop Alpnach around 11:00 hours. Some movements:

Then a short drive to Meiringen. I parked my car nearby the restaurant of the base and had a good lunch there with military personal and civilians. On the roof of the restaurant is a nice terras which overlooks the base, next pictures are made there

At the end of the day i went to my nice B&B in Brienz

Next day my first Axalp show, getting out of bed around 5:00 hours, 5 min walk to the train station of Brienz and sharp 5:30 first bus (at that time not busy, 20 people) to a meeting point just outside Brienz. There more people, but still not crowded. Corona ID check and ticket check (55 CHF). Then by bus going up the mountain to the chairlift. What a nice experience, in the dark in the chairlift, meeting a lot of people who are also exited to be there, some for the first time. When you are going for the first time some tips: take with you a large backpack for your camera, warm and cold clothes, dry clothes, food and drinks (you can buy food and drinks up the mountain), head light, mountain shoes. That day it was not cold and i had much too warm clothes on me. The first hour you walk in the dark and the path is not easy and sometimes slippery. Another good tip, start slowly. (i started to fast...) Very nice views when the sun starts to come up, next to you below Brienzersee (with some morning fog)

At the top, (i walked to the control tower, around 2 hours walk) changing clothes (you are wet , i assure you :-)) The first helicopters started to come in. Some pictures (keep in mind it was my first time, making pictures up here is challenging but very very nice! What an experience!!

Next day the show was cancelled because of the high winds and snow and rain up the mountain (was happy that i had a ticket for wednesday) To end the trip i went to the Schilthorn (2970 m) to see the Eiger, Monk and Jungfrau with the first snow of winter

Good one! And I like your story! As well as your pictures.
It is all familiar to me. Will go there again for sure. It is really an experience you can't compare with others.
Thanks again.

Nice report. We once planned to visit Axalp, and then it was cancelled because of the weather. Until today we never had a second chance. Yet.
Interesting to see two Pumas with a squadron badge by the way!
Cheers,
