Visit to the Hungarian airforce at Szolnok 2003.

Post by fisherman »

Back in 2003, I was fortunate enough to get a visit to the Hungarian airforce. The following photographs were all taken on Fuji Velvia slide film.

For me, the most evocative aircraft would be the Mi-24s, during my briefing I was asked what I might expect of this aircraft and its pilots, well that was easy with this awesome piece of military hardware and I asked "to stare death in the face" and do I have respect for those pilots :respect:

As I watched through the viewfinder they inched over me. My escort who was an L-39 pilot was laying behind me clutching my Billingham camera bag, I had previously loaded a fresh film (only 36 exposures of course) as the beast closed it was awsome but became frightening as the air was drawn away from us and the eyes started to stream as the aviation fumes filled the void. Anyway here are a few from that moment and some from the more sedate parts of the visit.

Interesting for sure! Although the watermark could have been a little less obvious to my taste....
