Cuatro Vientos Museum

Post by Rene Klok »

Our recent holiday in Spain brought us in the vicinity of the Cuatro Vientos Museum. Gates opened at 10am and we were the first visitors to pass through.
I still have to process most of my pics but this is a sneak preview.
The museum shows two Casa 207 Azor transport planes and the T.7-6 was recently restored in it's original 35 squadron colors. The result is stunning.

Contrary to this nice looking plane I also noticed a few examples of aircraft in lesser shape.
This Mirage F1 C.14C-78 was temporary displayed behind the KC-97 and needs some work.
Image

Mirage 3 C.11-13 also has seen better days. Who can identify the Beech (?) next to it.
Image

This T-33 was located next to the hangar with the two Heinkel 111's (unfortunately this hangar was closed during our visit.
I guess it is E.15-21.

The stairs would indicate that getting onboard is indeed possible. However as far as I could determine none of the planes is accessible or approachable in any way. Even stepping on the grass to get a better photo angle results in a reprimande from one of the staff members.

Try the next time to talk to the "guards" first  . We did ( after the first whistle blow and we were allowed to stay over after closing time.. Then all was possible. BTW, interesting pictures, thank you for sharing those.

But , it is already 11 years ago I just realize :?

Well, you can, or at least, could have. It has the serial in the tail. On the picture I can only read E.24 (probably E.24B), but the rest is not clearly visible. If you have a better picture, or the sharper original you should be able to identify it. In any case it is a Be.F33 Bonanza.

Yes I do. Unfortunately I have not had the time to process it already. I will do that tomorrow and publish it. It is a bit in a sorry state however and missing various parts.

E.24 was indeed all I could make of it as well. Due to a fence and an unfavourable position against the sun this pic was the best I could do.

you asked for the Orion, here it is (shot taken 09 october 2014):

Image

Edit: Sorry René... I overlooked your remark that you were going to upload a pic later. Would still love to see it though, as you undoubtedly had better weather! Did you manage the F-4C and the Mirage 3EE? Last year, the Phantom had just been paintstripped and the Mirage was badly in need of a new coat; I understand both have been repainted in the meantime.

No problem Frank.
Yes we had marvelous weather. And yes both the Phantom and the Mirage now have a showroom shine. These I will post tomorrow as well.

Hiya!

I think you'll find your straight-tailed Bonanza is E.24A-30, see attached photo taken @ CV in 2010. The dent in the tail looks identical, zooming in your own photo should give some more certainty.

Grtz,

Robert W

As mentioned in my earlier post some more pics will follow. First of all the somewhat shabby Orion followed by the aircraft from the fighter row.

Finally I had some time to process a few more pics of our visit to Cuatro Vientos. This time a few of the piston driven icons of the sky.

12. The only KC-97 on display outside of the United States.
Image

13
Image

14
Image

15. My first ever Caribou
Image

16. The Spanish Airforce never operated a Catalina so to me it is a bit of a mystery why this one is displayed in Spanish markings. A beautiful aircraft nevertheless.
Image

17. It is obviously being worked on and all evidence of the last (civil) operator SAESA is now gone.
Image

19

20

21. This B-25 also never flew for the Spanish Airforce. Before it's life in the museum it had been used in a film and was left in a derelict state.

I conclude my uploads of the Cuatro Vientos Museum with some Spanish (license) built aircraft (mostly Casa).

22. Casa 207 Azor
Image

23. Casa 3.52 (Junkers 52)
Image

24. There are two of them in the museum
Image

25. The Casa 212 prototype
Image

26. One of the first production aircraft of the Casa 212
Image

27. The Hispana Aviacion HA220
Image

28. To conclude this series of the Cuatro Vientos museum (there is much more to be seen; also in the hangars) one of the strangest aircraft ever seen in a museum. Perhaps even the ugliest aircraft. My wife persuaded me to take this picture because she thought it was such a cute aircraft. I'm referring to the Transavia PL-12 Airtruk. A design from "down under" purposely built for the agricultural sector. It was flown from Australia to Spain in 15 days and for some obscure reason donated to this Airforce museum.

Hope you enjoyed watching.
