Belgian Internation Airshow - Florennes 23/24 June

Post by Harry_Imp »

Hi all,

I am new to this site! I am looking to go to Florennes for the Airshow on the 23rd June. Does anyone know how big this airshow is expected to be, will it be a major airshow with a high amount of Participants such as Waddington where I live?

Also I take photos, but only have a 70-300 mm lens, does anyone know how far away your are? Is it similar to RIAT, as i just did okay there?

Thanks
Harry

You're further than at RIAT, certainly during take-offs and landings. If you check Google maps, I'd expect to be on the parallel runway. Not many participants are known at the moment. The Belgian stuff of course, plus the Italian Typhoon display, PC-7 Team and NATO AWACS on static are already on the official page. There should be at least one jet team, and you can also expect Cartouche Doré from France and Croatia's Krila Oluje.

Many thanks for the quick reply.

Just on the photograpy side, what do you think to my chances of any decent flying shots with a 300mm lens then?

Thanks

maybe you can do something with the team, but for the rest I don't think you can take descent pictures with a 300mm lens at Florennes during the weekend. Maybe some taxishot, but this depends on where the airplanes and public will be. I hope we will be placed a lot closer to the action during the spottersday on Friday

If I were to rent a canon 100-400 would this be OK?

I've only been to an AIRSHOW at Florennes once, but the static display/crowd line were to the NORTH of the runway, not on the parallel runway!

You're in the North, the runway (East/West) is to the South...YES!

It has been many moons ago that the static and crowdline was on the north side, last couple of times everything was on the southside, with static on old TLP ramp and taxitrack.

I went to an airshow in Florennes, I believe in '93 or something like that, and the show was on the south side. Using the TLP ramp.
We went outside of the airfield to picture the aircraft while landing because the show was too far away.
I think you'll need a 400mm or something like that.

To do "Full Format Pictures" you'll need 500mm and more, if the location will the same, as in 2008!!!

Florennes is the worst case for an airshow...the best opportunitys to get at last a few decent shots would be a spottersday or during the fly-in, otherwise it´s way to far to get decent shots at all, or you have 500 mm +!
