Flying Legends (Duxford) 11-12 July 2009

Post by WireFox »

Hi,

Heard within the last 24 hrs that the 'Horseman' demo team headed by Ed Shipley will be at
Duxford taking part at Flying Legends. I asked which aircraft would be involved, I was informed
by Deb at ASB that Ed would be bringing a Mustang over to 'saddle' with maybe 'Miss Velma'
and there maybe a 'Surprise', so fingers-crossed. No news if the P-38 'GG' will hop across the 'Pond' although it is my understanding that they talked about it around two-weeks ago, but has yet have heard nothing more on the subject.

Regards, WF. Gary.

To revive this topic,

I'm lucky enough to get a ride on the PH-DDZ to CBG this year (On 11 July), then on to Duxford to see the show. Is there any more information about the program available yet?

I am praying that the B-17 "Pink Lady" can make it! The other Europe based B-17 "Sally B" will not make it, she ruined the crank shaft of engine #1 according to the dedicated website. I'm looking forward to the show and my flight there, but would like to know what to expect!

Well,

There is not yet anything known about the line up... only small rumours on the internet... Although a MS MS.406 is already at Duxford, but it isn't linked to Flying Legends yet... As soon as i know something, i'll post it here.

So far the Horsemen from the US of A are confirmed. BBMF Lancaster only on Sunday. I've also heard a French Sea Fury will participate.

Maybe you mean Sea Fury T20 NX20MD/"WG655"? That one will come over from the USA for Flying Legends (Source: Aircraft Illustrated's July 2009 issue page 48-50)

The Morane is there for Flying Legends, as per the TFC blog:

There will also be a Lockheed Electra, I suppose the one from France.

Noticed that only one a/c of The Fighter Collection, P-51 Miss Velma, is mentioned in the line-up in stead of the usual 10+
TFC aircraft.
So no Wildcat, Hellcat, Bearcat, Corsair, P-51 Twiglight Tear, Spitfire(s) etc.

Anybody on this forum who knows why ?

According to Chrisse at airshows.be most of TFC's aircraft are grounded at the moment.

In the case of the Corsair I'm not entirely certain why it's not confirmed, it could be due to serviceability or something §(it still has a permit to fly), but you can check the regs of the aircraft of the Fighter Collection via G-INFO and you'll see that a lot of them do not have a permit to fly at present.

I'm not complaining about the list though, it was probably way more expensive to organize now but you get a whole of 'exotic' warbirds at a Duxford show, as opposed to an event dominated by the home team.

Travelling with the DDA's Dakota to Flying Legends is always a pleasure, the more so because it was allowed to land at DX

Unfortunately Duxford has downgraded the firefighting facilities, so that a passenger carrying Dakota is not allowed to land there anymore. That means a bus ride from Cambridge for the passengers and spectators will have to miss the view of DC-3's landings and take offs.
Hope that DX will change it's mind, but this is probably again the law of economics.
