Thailand: Suspension of some festivities on Children's Day

Post by Rik van der Vet »

Just as warning for those prepare for going to the Thai for the yearly childrens day and the opendays of the airfields:

Ministry of Education ordered the suspension of all festivities on the annual Children's Day that falls on Jan 12 this year in the light of the death of Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana.

Charueyporn Tharanintra, permanent secretary of the Education Ministry, revealed after having discussed with Education Minister Wijit Srisa-arn that the Children's Day will still be held although entertainment activities will not be organised.

Only activities including knowledge contests will be held to celebrate the event.

Activities, which have been held at Sanam Sua Pah in front of the Dusit Palace, will be organised at the field close to the Education Ministry.

The change of venue is because the Royal Household Bureau announced 100-day mourning period for the late Princess, thus organising the event near the palace is not appropriate, Mrs Charueyporn said.

It has been confirmed there WILL be a children's day event at Don Muang RTAFB,but this will be held on the AOT side of the field, with the sun in totally the wrong place during the morning for photography.

Not sure of the status of any flying display.

The remaining Royal Thai Air Force bases should also be open.

Not sure if the other services will also be open, but there's no reason why they should not be.

Hey mate. The whole event will not be cancelled. It still stay on course

I still can comfirm that The RTAF Children's Day Air Show will be held on 12 Jan 08.

I still saw the text on CH5 that invite everyone to join the event just a couple hours ago.

RTAF didn't announce the cancellation of aerial display. The program still on RTAF website. So I can tell you that you will see the aircraft flying.

But RTAF will adjust the event to suit the mourning of HRH Princess Galyani Vadhana.

The news on RTAF official website.

The same website even confirms that the event will take place on 12 AND 13 January (2nd line fourth text block).

Still the event is expected to be smaller than usual.
