I consider KB Spottersday 2022 a rip-off indeed. It was by far the worst and most expensive spottersday held at KB. And I am not talking weather-wise, because the organisation can't help that.

In recent years, prices have gone up rapidly; about 10-15 years ago, we paid no more than 20 euros and got far better results, with almost all aircraft taxiing past the crowds and much more flying activity. As with many other events, these spottersdays now tend to be overcommercialised. With absurd prices being charged for entrance, food and drinks. There is no way to escape this, as food/drinks are now included in the entrance fee. That is not a good thing.

Yes, there were positive aspects as well. For one thing, it was nice that they asked the Saudi personnel to take the covers of their Hawks off earlier, so that we could get good shots of their aircraft. But why let the barriers stop at the third or so aircraft, making it impossible to get good clean shots of the last few Hawks?

And yes, we were allowed to stay a bit longer, enabling us to get take-off shots of the F-35. That was nice too. As were the efforts of the 4 F-16 pilots who made numerous low approaches and did taxi in front of the crowd after landing. A big thank you for that.

But all in all, it was a disappointing event. For instance, too many aircraft had their covers removed too late or not at all. Making them totally unattractive to photograph. And the A400M kept taking the first exit to the north after landing, even before reaching the crowd line. When you organise a special event for spotters, these things make or break such an event.

I hope KB spottersday organisation will really take comments of spotters seriously. Because there is a limit to what people are prepared to pay for what they are being offered during these days.

Let's all hope that KB spottersday 2023 will be a success again, with decent prices and good photo opportunities, after this disappointing edition.

19-5475 was the one that flew on Saturday. And yes, that was the one in the static at RIAT/Fairford... it flew with P-51D NL351MX/413305/WR-Z and FA-87 Dream Viper.

Totally agree, but I did not buy a ticket and stayed ourside, as I experienced similar bad aspects at KB spottersdays also during earlier editions in the last ten years or so ...

I contacted Sanicole about the lack of flying on Saturday on KB and they said that they anticipated on the predicted bad weather on Saturday and moved the rehearsals to Friday. The Belgian airforce did everything to give us flying activities. It's not their fold and the Sanicole organisation stated that next time all should be normal again if the weather permits it.

Nobody can do anything about the weather, it was known before that it wouldn't be nice.
But such huge gaps in the static where there was nothing at all, you walked hundred meters until to the next aircraft. Why wasn't this filled with everything that was in Sanicole or in KB in the forest. Why wasn't the F-35 put into static? The Danes were said to be there with 7 x T-17s. You could have tried that the Saudis and/or Turks each had a supporter in KB. The RJF were also not visible. I'm sure I don't know the order of the MoD from the countries, or airfield commanders or squadron commanders.
Also in 2021, France with 6 Rafale, Italy with 4 F-2000 and Greece with 4 F-16. France had several in special paint and they want to be shown to the interested public, and we spotters are exactly this public. But everything was parked in the forest. It's called Spottersday and not "I'm here but you can't see me".
Sorry, but the organizing team in KB are professionals and have good contacts. But when every time the good aircraft that we spotters want to see disappear in the forest and the whole thing is called Spottersday, then I don't understand it. And many spotters come from very far away.

"I'm here but you can't see me - now give me 60 euros - day" :D Some say its your own choice, but then it would be the same as buying an A-class brand item only to find out its falling apart after a short period of time, without any refund..... next year i'm gonna try my luck on thursday/ friday and during the weekend outside the fields. Myabe better choice.

Anyone for the T17 serial numbers on sunday? Cant read them from my dark photographs......

totally agree....if you retrieve the 2021 tread i was one of the few that written almost the same i can read above to prevent a such 2022 spotter trap....Many replied " monday was free" and mostly everything was shown...so the real spotterday was monday and many locals were enjoyed by that.... As you said , many saturday foreign spotters had to go home after sanicole airshow..
And remember , the "I'm here but you can't see me" began when al fursan team stayed in the forest during that spotterday years ago...
to be positive , please bring us back the spirit of the 99 OIE SPOTTERDAY...

In my view, a spotters day that advertises "photos you always dreamed of" can and should do something SPECIALLY for spotters, and not offer a "waste product" of other events such as Tiger Meet or Sanicole Airshow - with addition of a few Belgian displays as an alibi for what they call "THE spotter event of the year". Even in bad weather you can let all planes roll past the spotters. But the organizers don't seem to have any motivation to offer more than just the bare essentials - all at an outrageous price!
