Gents,

Had a small talking with one of the engineers of the maintenance team when he was returning some tools @ H10 and he told me the following facts;

- This weekend they want to do some engine runs (all three at the same time)
- The engineers will leave for Trinidad next week (all expect 1 ore 2)
- Next week (if all works out fine with our IVW department) they want to have some testflights and after succes and clearance the 1011 will go to LIS for a C-check.

Base on my recieved info it's looking really shinny for seening our "sleeping beaty" back in action in very short time.

It would not surprice me if the TriStar had to make a very unexpected diversion during the testflight over the NorthSea.... to LIS....

Would be great to see it fly...

Visited our Caribbean friends at East who have now been joined by TAP engineers.... A/c was connected to Airstarter/PACS...
They hope they can do testruns tomorrow in front of H11.

Doesn't surprise me... after more than 2 years of standstill I guess there is a LOT what has to be checked and/or repaired...
It still does my head a bit thinking about the amount of time and money spend on this old bird as this is not even an economical plane to operate. I like the 1011, would be great to see it flying again, but from a dollar point of few, it still wonders me.

it's looking a lot better with the engines fitted. Did they complete the engine test run(s) in the mean time?

Location: Amsterdam Airport Schiphol in front of KLM Hangar 11/12.
Time : February 09, 2007, 14.15Z hrs.
Ship : Luzair Lockheed L-1011 CS-TMR.

From silence came the deep-throated turn of the compressors as air pressure appeared in the system and slowly, the enormous turbofan engines started to suck massive quantities of air through their enormous intakes. With a small explosion in the engine hot section, number 3 came alive.
The crew fired up # 3 engine first to allow the air system pressure to build up in readiness for starting # 1. Then engine 2 and 1 were started in sequence.
As the engines started to settle down at idle power, the familiar high-pitch howling started to fill my hearing senses. Suddenly the noise rose to a furious level, as the TriStar's three reliable high-hour Rolls Royce RB211-524B4-02 turbofans roared violently. Volcanic hot gases hurtle rearward with tremendoes velocity and are caught by the jet fences to prevent doing any harm.
Today, after two years of storage at Schiphol Airport, CS-TMR seems to be ready for her Airborne Venture ! Engines and all other systems were tested today. So, it is to be expected that our Lisbon Jet will flash through thin air soon, on her way back home ! :D
