New Canadian aircraft manufacturer: EVIO
On 11 December 2025, a new Canadian aircraft manufacturer unveiled itself and its first planned product to the world. EVIO, a Montréal based company, was formed in 2019 and has been quietly working on a hybrid regional aircraft dubbed the EVIO 810.
EVIO is financially backed by Boeing and is also being supported by Pratt & Whitney Canada, the company which' PT6E-engines will be used for the aircraft. According to the new manufacturer, they already have commitments for up to 450 aircraft. These were secured in 2023 and signed by two "major" airlines which together ordered 250 aircraft with options on another 200.
The EVIO 810 will be a 76-seat regional aircraft. It will feature hybrid technology, enabling the aircraft to fly short distances (up to 185 km) fully electric. Taxiing can also be done fully electric. If used as a hybrid, the 810 will have a range of up to 1,667 km. Apart from a passenger-version, EVIO is also planning to develop a cargo-version, as well as various military versions, including an unmanned one.
EVIO is planning to conduct the first flight of the 810 and hopes to see entry into commercial service in 2030.
