New airline in Vietnam: Sun PhuQuoc Airways
On 13 June 2025, the Vietnamese government issued the Air Transport License to start-up Sun PhuQuoc Airways. This new airline is a subsidiary of the Sun Group, a large tourism and real-estate company from Phu Quoc. The company isn't a stranger to aviation, as the Group also has an executive jet subsidiary called Sun Air, which operates a fleet of Gulfstream bizjets.
Sun PhuQuoc Airways has big ambitions to connect the island with the rest of Vietnam, Russia, Europe, Australia, Central Asia, and the Middle-East. It plans to be a high-end airline and plots to launch operations by December 2025.
Initially, Sun PhuQuoc Airways is planning to launch with Airbus A321neos. Later, it also wants to add widebody-aircraft to the fleet, with the Boeing B787 being mentioned in the local press. The airline wants to have a 30+ strong fleet by 2030.
