Lufthansa weighs long-haul fleet options

The delayed deliveries of B787s and the B777-9s has prompted Lufthansa to consider its options to ensure its long-haul capacity will be able to meet future demand.

Speaking at the presentation of the Q1-2022 results, the CEO of the Lufthansa Group said bringing back some of its fourteen stored A380s could be a possibility, a reverse of his previous comment last year in which he said the aircraft would never come back. German aviation news website aero.de is, however, reporting that the airline is also in discussions with Airbus to see if it can acquire A350-900s and/or -1000s, that were originally destined for Aeroflot and Qatar Airways. If the airline reaches a deal for A350-1000s, it would be the first order for that version of the A350 for the airline.

In other news, Lufthansa's Airbus A350-900 D-AIVD (280) will soon enter commercial service featuring an all white-livery, with large "Cleantechflyer" titles. This was done to promote the airline's CleanTech Hub, the centre of expertise for sustainability within the airline group. This particular A350 is one of the airline's  latest addition to the fleet, recently acquired from Philippine Airlines where it flew as RP-C3507.
