IAI receives certification for B777-300ERSF
On 1 September 2025, IAI announced it has received the Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for its Boeing B777-300ERSF program. With the STC now secured, deliveries and operations with the type can now commence.
IAI launched the conversion programme in 2019 as a joint-venture with GECAS (now AerCap). The lessor has 20 B777-300ERSFs (nicknamed The Big Twin) on order, with options on another ten. It has secured lease-agreements with FlyMeta, Challenge Air, Hongyuan Group, and Kalitta Air, of which the latter will be the launch operator for the type.
Next to its deal with AerCap, IAI also signed an agreement with Emirates to convert up to ten of the airline's B777-300ERs into the SF.
The B777-300ERSF is aimed as a replacement for older B747-400Fs. It has a comparable range but has a 21% lower fuel burn per tonne and has15% more volume.
IAI is the first of three companies working on B777 passenger-to-freighter conversions to secure the STC. The other two companies are the Kansas Modification Center (offering the B777-300ERCF), and Mammoth (offering the B777-200LRMF and B777-300ERMF). Of these two, only Mammoth has so far announced orders for its programme, placed by AviaAM Leasing, DHL, and Qatar Airways.
