First Global Express air ambulance for FAI

German operator FAI rent-a-jet has announced earlier this week it has converted a Bombardier Global Express for air ambulance use. Scramble believes this to be the first dedicated Global Express that is used as an air ambulance.

FAI operates ten other air ambulances, these are Challenger 604 and Learjet 60 aircraft. Whilst the Challengers and Learjets are mainly used for short- to medium-range missions, the Global Express has a much longer range, which should severely reduce the time required on farther missions.

The company states it has seen an increase on ultra-long-range air ambulance missions, so this might not be the last Global Express converted for this role. The aircraft involved seems to be D-AFAM, one of the earliest Global Expresses built (c/n 9028). D-AFAM has been with FAI since 2011 and is of 1999 vintage.
