China Southern to streamline widebody-fleet
China Southern is set to streamline its widebody-fleet and has issued a tender in which it seeks potential buyers of its complete Boeing B787-8 fleet. According to various media, the airline is also looking into leasing-out or selling-off its B777-300ERs as well.
The reason for the fleet adjustments is that the B787-8 is deemed a bit too small for its network, while the B777-300ER is too big.
Today, China Southern Airlines has a fleet of ten B787-8s and fifteen B777-300ERs. Next to these, the airline's passenger widebody-fleet is made-up of two Airbus A330-200s, 25 A330-300s, 20 A350-900s, and eighteen B787-9s. It also has open orders for at least two B787-9s and up to ten A350-900s.
