One year ago, in September 2024, BRA announced it would cease all scheduled passenger-flights and focus on Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance and Insurance (ACMI) services. Now, a year later the company also announced that it will streamline its fleet by retiring its Airbuses and close its subsidiary Braathens International Airways.
Currently, the company has two Airbus A319s in service with Braathens Regional Airways, and two A319s and three A320s with Braathens International Airways. Retirement of these aircraft is scheduled to begin in 2026 when contracts with tour operators expire. BRA started flying the Airbuses back in June 2023.
Once retired, BRA will use its fleet of seventeen ATR72-600s to fly for other airlines. It currently has ACMI lease-deals in place with Austrian Airlines and SAS.
