Allegiant to merge with Sun Country Airlines
On 11 January 2026, Allegiant and Sun Country Airlines announced that they secured an agreement for the merger of both airlines. The $1.5 billion USD-deal is for Allegiant to acquire Sun Country. Once completed, Allegiant shareholders will own 67%, and Sun Country shareholders 33%.
The Sun Country-brand will cease to be used and all operations will be folded into Allegiant. According to the press-release, the combined airline will keep Las Vegas-Harry Reid International (NV) as its main base, but will also maintain a large presence at Minneapolis-St. Paul (MN).
Today, Allegiant is operating a fleet of 28 A319s, 83 A320s, and sixteen B737-8200s. It also holds open orders for 34 additional Boeing B737MAXs and options on another 80.
Sun Country, which was founded in July 1982, is flying with 20 B737-800Fs, 45 B737-800s, and two B737-900ERs.
