Boeing and Air Astana announced a deal for new Dreamliners as part of the C5+1 summit, which was held in Washington (DC) on 6 November 2025. This summit is a gathering of the Central Asian-countries presidents.
However, as with all orders announced during political meetings, we need to be careful what has exactly been announced or ordered. Sometimes it's just a reconfirmation of aircraft already ordered.
In this case, Air Astana announces its intention to order up to fifteen B787-9s. Of this order, only two are new firm orders, three are conversions of already ordered B787-8s into -9s, and the rest are options and purchase intentions.According to the statement of the airline, the aircraft are scheduled to be delivered between 2032 and 2035.
Next to the newly announced order, Air Astana also has three B787-9s on order through lessor ALC, which are scheduled to arrive in 2026 and onwards.
Today, the airline's fleet is made-up of eleven Airbus A320neos, three A321s, seventeen A321neos, and three B767-300ERs.
