A330 lease-deal for Surinam Airways falls through

On 15 November, we reported that Surinam Airways signed a lease-agreement for the lease of a former Virgin Australia A330-200. Now, Surinam news outlets Waterkant and Dagblad Suriname are reporting that the deal has been canceled.

According to the news outlets, the supervisory board of lessor Global Knafaim has decided to back out of the deal and will use the aircraft within its own holding, which mirrors our previous reporting that the A330-200 9H-GKL (1293) will go to Tus Airways of Cyprus.

Now that the lease-agreement is not moving forward, Surinam Airways will need to continue to rely on utilising wet-leased aircraft for its route between Paramaribo and Amsterdam. At the same time, the airline is in discussions with other lessors to lease a suitable aircraft, with the Airbus A330 still being preferred.
