General

Martindale Army Air Field is a Texas Army National Guard facility in San Antonio southeast of Loop 410 and Interstate 10 on the East Side. This airfield was built during World War Two as Martindale Auxiliary Army Airfield #4 to serve as one of eight satellite airfields for Randolph AAF (10 miles to the northeast), which was the largest flight training facility in the world at the start of WWII. Nowadays, Texas Army National Guard flies helicopters here, training night (with Night Vision Goggles, NVGs), weekend and weekday flying.

Layout

The airfield consists of a paved runway (3,000' long) on the east side, taxiways, a large ramp area and several buildings.

Martindale AHP is located southeast of Loop 410 and Interstate 10, located on Ackermann Road.

1Look at Apron

In the afternoon, a good view onto the apron can be had here. To reach spot 1, take Highway 10 eastbound, from San Antonio to Seguin. take a right onto Highway 410 southbound. Take a direct right onto the exit East Houston road. At the traffic lights take a right onto E Houston street. After passing Highway 410 underneath, take a right and keep left onto SNE Interstate 410 loop. Take a first right onto Eunice Street and the second left onto Peggy Drive. The airport will at your right. Park your car at one of the unbuild areas and walk towards the fence.
