Cambrai was home of two Mirage 2000 squadrons. It was closed spring 2012. The airbase was a phantom of the wartime airbase, remains of which can still can be found outside the base.
The airfield has east-west runway with the majority of the activity takes place on the south side. Two shelter areas are used, the largest is in the southeast corner. The flightline is halfway down the runway on the south side and visitors are parked there too.
At the airshow, most of the ramp area around the hangars is accessible, along the flightline and the taxiway towards the aforementioned shelter area.
Take the A2/E19 from Belgium to Paris. Take exit Cambrai/Hordain (exit 15) and follow the N30 towards Cambrai. When you reach Cambrai, take the N43 to Douai. The airbase is on your left hand side a few kilometres on the N43.
Follow the N43 to Epinoy and take the D21E to Sauchy Estree. In Epinoy, there is a small road from the south of the village towards the airbase from where the runway can be seen. With a good scope, aircraft on the ramps can be read off. Make sure that you are out of sight of the control-tower.
When you follow the D21E from Epinoy to Sauchy Estree you'll pass the Western approach. From here pictures can be taken with 200 mm. Aircraft on the most western ramps may be read off.
The N43 from Cambrai to Epinoy passes the Eastern approach. Don't park your car along the N43 because as it is not appreciated by locals nor the police. Instead, look for the very small parallel road running from Sancourt to the north and follow the signs to the WW1 memorial. You can park your car at the memorial.
From here pictures can be taken with 200 mm (you are standing a little bit higher than the road here). Aircraft on the most eastern ramps can be read off.
