This airfield is situated near Ballum at Ameland, one of the Dutch Frisian Isles (Waddeneilanden), so traffic can get busy during the summer months. Most of the traffic consists of single-engined light aircraft, gliders and parachuting planes.
As this airport is situated on an island, it takes a while to get there. You have to catch a ferry from Holwerd on the mainland. From the ferry port at the island walk, rent a bike or take a taxi to the airfield. The distance to cover is about 7 km.
