History

This part of the Imperial War Museum is situated on the historic airfield of Duxford, which was used both by the RAF and USAF in the Second World War. Today (2006) a huge reconstruction of hangar 1 is undertaken. It is enlarged to accomodate the so-called Air Space exhibition.

In the hangars of Duxford several companies that overhaul or own warbirds are situated (e.g. ARCO, The Fighter Collection, The Old Flying Machine Company, and Historic Flying Ltd.)

Aircraft

Apart from many aircraft that represent the history of British military aviation (like the name of the museum suggests) many civil airliners can also be found at the IWM at Duxford.

In the former category a.o. Bristol Fighter, Lysander, Hurricane, Spitfire, Mosquito, Swordfish, Sunderland. From the post war years: Sea Venom, Meteor, Hunter, Lightning, Sea Vixen, Phantom II.

Foreign military types that are present e.g. Pucara, Draken and Mystere

Civil airliner e.g. York, Ambassador, Viscount, Dart Herald, Trident, Comet and VC-10 and, of course Concorde !
