Army Aviation organization
The PLA was established on August 1, 1927, and consisted of land forces only in its early days.

In 1988 the Army Aviation Corps was established with the transfer of Air Force helicopters.

Modernization of the helicopter force started already in 1986 with the acquisition of 24 S-70 Black Hawks. After this first batch no more American equipment was allowed to be exported to China anymore and nowadays helicopters come from Russia (Mi-17/171), France (AS365/350) and Chinese production lines.

In April 2003 an indigenious developped WZ10 tankbuster was flown for the first time.

Organisation
A Regiment nowadays consist of a mix of troop transport and ground attack helicopters. The organization of the Army is not yet fully known unfortunately. Army Aviation Regiments report to Army Groups that in turn report to Brigades.
