The Corpo Forestale dello Stato operates a small fleet of AB412 helicopters. This medium transport helicopter can be fitted with an under slung watercarrier to fight forest fires. Besides this task the CFS also uses the AB412 for transport of personnel and equipment and for patrols in search of possible forest fires.
The Corpo Forestale dello Stato (CFS) falls under the jurisdiction of the Ministero delle Politiche Agricole Alimentari e Forestali. Its duties include arresting poachers, safeguarding protected animal species and preventing forest fires. The CFS is responsible for civil protection in Italy’s mountain areas and for investigating environmental violations. Its most well-known protection duty is fighting wildfires.
