EMBOW XXII Exercise Northern Germany

Post by Thijs »

Hello all,
today at 16:00 LT a formation from three Italian Army Chopper ( NH.90, A.129, CH-47D ) flew along the river Rhine at Cologne to the north. They enroute to WTD-61 Meppen range for trials next week.
Someone know the registration ?

The Meppen Range is near Wittmund. Do they operate out of Wittmund? or maybe Rheine Bentlage?

Most likely for the "EMBOW" exercise. Other participants are the Portugese AF F-16's operating out of Volkel (EHVK)

Thanks for the info guys.

To add some more. In 2007 this exercise was also held at the Meppen Range, from 3-16 October ( http://www.defense.gouv.fr/dga/votre_es ... evaluation" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) . See SIS Scramble 342 for some more information. This years edition will run from 21 September until 9 October.

24 September a Turkish Transall, 69-024 221 Filo landed at Wittmundhafen. The 2007 edition saw the participation of a Turkish Hercules, so I guess this Transall is also involved in the exercise.

In the article Thijs mentions, it says an Spanish Puma was involved in oct 2007.
In my Bentlage movements I see the AME AS.332 that was at Bentlage than for 10 days. Also A Czech Mi-35 and Mi-171 particepated than 2 days!
So, I guess the helo's will also stay at Bentlage....

This whole week a Dutch F16 J-624 (callsign Rack) was performing missions to the Meppen range. In 2007 the J-066 performed missions during EMBOW.

Today a quick look at the WTD91 range this morning. NH-90 MM81521/E.I.204 was parked on the Gras strip on the east side of WTD91 range. Weather conditions were bad, I didn't see any flying, but this is a very large range, so could have easily missed them.

Hello!
Nobody know is the Tuaf F-16 & F-4 arrived in Wittmund with a/a refuelling? Or where they made a fuel stop on their way?
Thanks

AFAIK they had tanker support (at least for first half of their leg).

As Oscar said they had tanker support over the Black Sea, but I don't think that the tanker escorted them abroad. Tomorrow an AAR is scheduled for their return over the Black Sea at 1045-1200Z.

I have just heard TuAF 827, sounded like a C-160, flying westbound possibly to Germany.

I have seen the TuAF jets as reported from 171 and 182.Filo. Can anybody confirm that? The F-16 serials look like 192.Filo to me...

Hi Hakan,

TUAF 827 just checked in with Bremen/Wittmund on 340.6 for landing at Wittmund.
