New Scans. Malacky AB in Slovakia (Su-25's & L-29's)

Hi all

Thanks to Marcel, AKA mr Warthog71, I have some new slidescans to present. A very big thank you Marcel. You see that some Nikon equipment is not as bad? Dont tell CJ though..

In 2001, Anno Gravemaker, Doctor Pieter and I had a two days visit in Slovakia. Top event was the last day at Malacky, spending the afternoon at the ramp in lovely weather. Here the results.

Hi Alex (and Ruud on private message)

Scans were made with a Nikon Coolscan 5000 ED. The same as Scancare.nl uses. I am quite impressed with the results, altough Marcel has a hard time to make something useful of his Kodak slides. The difference between scanning Kodak 64 or Fuji Sensia 100 is huge, as the latter one is so much easier to scan and gives better results.

I like them Frank. What I was wondering about: how much time did you spend on the removal of dust and scratches on your slides? Or did the Coolscan take care of that?

Frank, do you also know if the results with this scanner would be the same if you scan some normal "negatief" film, because i'am quite impressed of the quality

Alex, negatives will do fine. The only structural differences I am aware of, are:
- slide film has a broader dynamic range, mostly noticed in better shadow detail on positive film than on negative;
- dust etc. will show up white on your scan of a negative (after inversion of course) and is therefore ususally more obvious.

The rest depends on quality of the film et cetera, so not related to the type of film.

I'am searching for a scanner and this one is now a serious option after i saw this pics from frank. I was asked this because i don't have slades only film from the previous age

From what Marcel just told me on the phone, it is possible and the results were promising, but he did not have the time yet to try it out in full

He will probably be able to show something when he is back from work next week.

Two small examples of negative scans, made these last year. The negs were 27 years old and taken with a compact camera (but on 36x24mm film). Scanner used is the Konica Minolta DiMage Scan Elite 5400 II, which is roughly a match for the Coolscan 5000 series, depending on the features you look at.
