31 Squadron unveils 'Blackbird'
31 Smaldeel

31sqn The 2009 NTM host has today, 5 day's before the start of the Tiger meet unveiled their new specialy painted aircraft

F-16AM (FA-87) now nicknamed 'Blackbird' has today been unveiled.
It is turned out to be a low-vis tiger motive, that if needed can be used as a front line fighter without having to lose it's tiger stipes.
it had been since 1998 that 31sqn was allowed to paint an entire aircraft.
Also present at the unveiling was F-104G, FX-52, the first ever 31 Sqn aircraft that was painted in tiger stripes. en guess what, this was 31 years ago...

Hate to disagree...., I am normally a big fan of the belgium (tiger) repaints but I think this one is butt ugly and way too shiny

But that good old Starfighter on the other hand..., that's what I call a real tiger !! :drinking:

These SW F16's also wear a tiger fin colour on top of the tail, I believe it is the old 79 TFS (now 79 FS) unit that used to fly the F111 from Upper Heyford.

So one call to Aviano should be possible to get an old full member back to the Tigers

31FW is using the SW and SP machine waiting their ones during manteinance for upgrade in Tanagra. Unfrotunately we noted that all the times they detaches somewhere they do not uses these aircraft so I think it will be really difficult. It's a sin (for you as I am already tired of seeing them and hoping they could rotate!....). Actually they are used from 555FS.

Just to add an info...today we saw 1 F16 HL here in Aviano..... who knows if it is a new delivery or not....

So Tonno, why don't you arrange a flight of 3 from AV then to Brogel?:
1x HL
1x SW
1x AV
:drinking:

Oscar

Ps: Aviano might see some visitors tomorrow as well

Except the tiger in the fin, it just looks like a copy of J-016 during its demoyears, without being cleaned for half a year.
(and oh, how sick I got from that paintscheme in the last parts of that career.)

As we have 15 mln weatherforecasters in the NL, let's not start about that....

It's getting to start already tomorrow! First flightplan is in:
CEF697 an AN-26 2507 is ETA 09.45 local and ex Caslav (for the grippens).

With the transport arriving tomorrow, I would gues(!) that the grippens might arrive as well tomorrow.....

For the exercise in Denmark, the portuges F-16s are routing through Florennes this time (think Brogel is busy enough).

More updates tomorrow morning very early (of course when there are updates)....

I think the Czech's made a fuelstop enroute Leuchars airshow, like they did in 2008.

Perhaps that Czech Antonov is just making a fuelstop enroute to Karup ? It might (also) be serving as a transport for the BAF participants, this beside the Embrear.

But anyway thanks for sharing this info.

The Czech Antonov is on its way to Leuchars indeed. Should be supporting 2 Gripens and an Alca which might also stop at KB.
