General
One of the three F-16 bases of the country, Volkel houses three squadrons: 306sq, 311sq, 312sq. So his base is quite a busy place. A lot of military visitors are comming there as well. And there are two nice places on both sides of the runway to watch.

Around The Airport
Runways 24
On this side is a spottersplace at the side of the threshold of the main runway (24R). For photographers the sun is most of the time at the wrong side, but to read off everyting moving, it is a nice spot.
The South Side
Along the south side a couple of spots exists, the one marked on the map gives you a good view of the runway 24L, just follow the small road to the fence. Further down the road you can peek through the bushes if something is parked there, something which is not quite likely as this part of the base is mostly deserted. But tractor training takes place here with an old unserviceable F-16. At this side you can also find the hangar of the local glider club.
Runways 06
Along the road there are some parking places, from here you have a good view of the landing and departing aircraft at the runways 06L and 06R.
The Main Gate
At the main gate, a F-104 is preserved.
The North Side
If there are visitors on the north side, you might see them through the trees and bushes from this spot, also to see them, you might want to try along the road between spot 2 and 3.

Getting There
Public Transport Info
Getting here by public transport takes a while. You can take a bus from either Oss, 's Hertogenbosch or Nijmegen to Uden and change there to Odiliapeel. Take a good look at the busstop for departure times back to Uden as this bus does not run very frequently.
