General
Leeuwarden is the home base for two squadrons F-16s and the SAR flight with brught yellow coloured Agusta Bell 412s. It is a good base to spot as there is plenty of traffic and some good places to take pictures. All this has one disadvantage and that is that he local farmers are anti-spotter minded, so stay out of all the fields around the base, they really get angry if they see you on their property.
Around The Airport
Runway 24
This spot covers both the landings of 27 and 24. Runway 24 is mostly used for landings from this side. From road here you can stand on both sides of the approach, so the sun is never a problem. There is a small road leading to a parking place where you can stand as well.
Runway 27
For runway 27, you can walk on the sandpath leading to the base to get closer to the fence. But beware of the farmer, stay on the path.
Main Gate
At the main gate a couple of aircraft are preserved.
Runway 06
At the other side of the base, two other good spots exists. The first one is the landing of runway 06, it is on a small road, just outside the village of Marssum. From here you can take good pictures of the landing aircraft and, if you walk a little to the fence, also on the taxiway.
Runway 09
The other spot on this side is along the taxiway, close to runway 09. Aircraft comming from the 322 side of the base, use the taxiway here to get to the runway 06. Gooed photo oportunities exists, especialy in the afternoon.
Getting There  Public Transport Info
You can take a couple of buses from Leeuwarden main station to Jelsum for the spots 1 to 3. Or take a bus to Marssum for spots 4 and 5.
