Lelystad is one of the busiest general aviation airfields of The Netherlands. A lot of flight training schools are situated at the airfield and also a couple of dealers and maintenance companies. Also a very nice museum is located here, with a lot of interesting planes, like a airworthy Douglas DC-2. In the near future (in 2003), a brand new aviation theme park will be built near the entrance of the airfield by moving the Aviodome museum from Schiphol to here and expanding their collection. On their wishlist are highlights such as a Lockheed Constellation (which is almost ready to be ferried to Europe), a Douglas DC-8 and a Boeing 747! So certainly worth a visit when this is all realised.

A lot of interesting aircraft can be found on the apron and in the hangars, ranging from small Ultra Lights, Cessna’s and Pipers to big twins and even small bizjets like Citiations, and a lot of helicopters. As with most smaller airfields, a lot is visible from the road. Normally, it is not that difficult to get permission to take a look around.
