General

For years the only scheduled link with the outside world was the Suckling Airways service to Amsterdam, but is was recently suspended. However, the scheduled services weren't the primary attraction of Cambridge. It is the base of Marshalls of Cambridge, an aerospace company specialising in overhaul and conversion of many different aircraft types. Customers are amongst others British Airways and the Royal Air Force, but many exotic airlines, bizjets and air forces have come to Marshalls. Therefore it is often worth a quick visit, for example on the way to Stansted or Mildenhall.

Terminal
There is a small terminal on the site of Marshalls of Cambridge. It appears inaccessible, unless you're a passenger or employee of Marshalls.

Around The Airport
East Side
From a crashgate at the east side of the airport almost all aircraft that are parked outside can be seen. Also, if the hangars at Marshalls are open, this is the location to read off any interesting aircraft inside. Also Marshalls use to store aircraft overhere, which can often be photographed.
North Side
This road passes the extended runway centreline of runway 23. If any large aircraft are landing from this side, traffic lights are activated, because they can be flying very low! This should offer opportunities for photography, though traffic isn't brisk.
West Side
One or two aircraft may not be visible from the east side. A road here leads to another entrance of Marshalls and through the hedge the aircraft may the identified. Depending on the season this may require some effort!

Getting There
The easiest way the get to and around Cambridge is by car. From Mildenhall/Newmarket take the A14 to Cambridge and then the exit to the A1303 to Cambridge. This will take you to vantage points 1 and 2. From Stansted you take exit 11 off the M11 to Cambridge. Follow the A10 for a mile or two, then turn right on the A1134 (the ring road). This will take you past vantage point 3.
Bus services 111, X11 and X12 from Cambridge to Newmarket and Bury St. Edmunds stop near the terminal/main entrance of Marshalls (near vantage point 2). Check http://www.travelineeastanglia.org.uk/ for more information.
