General

Payerne is the home of the fighter fleet of the Swiss Air Force. It has a long reputation among aviation-enthusiasts for being one of the best places to photograph military aircraft. Please keep in mind that during the summer, flying activities may be very low. Also some of the squadrons are reserve only and will mostly fly during their Wiederholungskurse, which are published on our SIS Overview. During the previous months a temporary fence has been constructed around the southern taxiways. Furthermore, on the south side near spot 1, a BFU-Building (Solar Impulse) has been constructed.

Layout

The southwest-northeast runway is out in the open farmland. The northeast side has some hangars and a ramp. The southeast side has a ramp also, with open 'barn'-type hangars.

Getting There

You pass the airfield when you drive on the highway from Bern to Lausanne. From Highway 1, take exit Payerne/Bussy.
